When Fashion Design Helps Demystify Mental Health

Created by the nonprofit organization Toi, t’en penses quoi? in collaboration with Cégep Marie-Victorin, the Personnalité10 project will be on display at Les Impatients from August 31 to October 9, 2026.

With the support of mental health professionals, fashion design students from Cégep Marie-Victorin have created thirty-four outfits reflecting various facets of the human personality. Narcissistic, histrionic, borderline, schizoid, and more: each creative garment is the result of an artistic interpretation of one of the ten personality disorders.

Without caricature, romanticization, or diagnostic implications, Personnalité10 aims to destigmatize these disorders, which are estimated to affect approximately 10% of the population. It is an invitation to move beyond labels and take a nuanced view of human and relational diversity.

A roundtable discussion bringing together fashion design students who created the outfits, mental health professionals, and people living with a personality disorder will take place on Saturday, September 26, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Grand Atelier de Montreal. Admission is free, but reservation is required.

Alongside Personnalité10, Les Impatients is showcasing jackets from The Collection Les Impatients. Designed under the supervision of artist Pierre Bellemare by participants in the Les Impatients workshop in Pointe-aux-Trembles, these creations—which use secondhand jackets as their base—were the focus of a theatrical production at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde and several exhibitions before becoming part of the Les Impatients Collection.
