A unique perspective on current events
How do artists respond to current events? The exhibition SALLE-DE-MÉLANGEMENTS, on view at the Grand Atelier in Montreal from June 17 to August 6, 2026, seeks to answer this question.
SALLE-DE-MÉLANGEMENTS brings together works by the distinctive Montreal artist Luc Guérard and Gaëtane Lupien, an artist affiliated with Les Impatients.
Joining this dialogue and adding their own unique perspectives are artists who have participated or are currently participating in Les Impatients’ workshops: Antonio Mazza, Aryan Arian, Daniel Côté L’Espérance, David Forest, Diego Morales, Dinh Duong Nguyen, Félix Lavigne, François Ducas, Mikan, Lise Leprohon, Louise Cottnon, Lucie Desmarais, Mohamed Omar Rjama, Réjean Chatillon, Renée Bernard, Roger Beaudoin, Ronald Brière, Yvan Houle, as well as a few works from a private collection.
“Sensitive and spontaneous, the artists in this exhibition project onto canvas or paper the emotions stirred by watching or reading the news. These artists highlight the turmoil affecting our societies—inequality, authoritarian excesses, racism, hatred, and conflict—or, at times, their own personal turmoil. In their work—which is often marked by a quest for well-being or beauty—these creative dislocations underscore the painful effects of heightened awareness and the defiant determination to engage with the ‘world’ as a whole. Their actions stand out as the expression of powerful emotions that they had to convey to us—surely to free themselves from them—if not to communicate.” Eric Mattson, exhibition curator
The works that make up SALLE-DE-MÉLANGEMENTS serve as testimonies and reflections of various states of mind: fear, anger, stress, but also wisdom and kindness. Every visitor to this exhibition is invited to examine their own emotions in the face of a world losing its humanity.
Speeches, interviews, and micro-concerts by workshops participants will form an audio response to the exhibition.
*The title of this exhibition is inspired by the titles of two works by artist Antonio Mazza (1964–2023): *Salle-de-mélangémént* and *Salle-des-mélangéménts*.
